What is the difference between a Custom Website, a Hosted Website and an Internet Billboard?

A custom website is a site built from scratch and is a one of a kind website. It has all the functionalities of a regular website.

An Internet Billboard (IB) is similar too a billboard you would see along a highway. You can not interact with a billboard, all you can do is read it. However, an IB offers much more information. An IB allows you to tell the whole story the what, where, when and how and contains many more images. It usually is one page in length with as many sections as needed to convey your message. Sections contain a single subject like, “About Us” or “Services” and are limited to a smaller number of images and information about the subject .

On the other hand, a website allows interactivity, for instance, an eCommerce site allows the pick and choose product option and purchases. A website may offer a blog allowing the owner to communicate with visitors, the visitor may be able to comment on the blog. There are many options for interactivity. A website is made of many pages where you can elaborate on the subject matter and display more images.  The final difference is the ability to maintain and interact with visitors through access to the back-end of a website.

Is a contract required??

No, we believe that hard work, honest prices and good service will make happy clients. And to be honest, an unhappy client requires more work and more time resulting in loss of revenue. We both lose. We will do everything possible to solve any problems you may have, but some people are just plain unhappy and nothing is ever good enough. So, they may go with our blessing and hopefully find greener digital grass on the other side of the internet.

Why do I need a Paypal account?

We use Paypal for our payment gateway. They take all credit cards including their own and offer a few other options. It does not cost you anything to set up an account or for them to accept your credit card. Our fees are at the low end of the scale as we created our business model on the small business with small budgets. Paypal offers to take credit cards without a Paypal account, but with a higher cost. Higher cost require higher prices. We feel this is a win win for both our customer and our business.

There is another plus for using Paypal. Paypal is an option on most websites. I personally use Paypal for all my shopping on the internet both business and personal, which puts my credit card information in one place and no other.

Web Site vs Domain Name vs Hosting – what are the differences?

Your website is made up of files (like index.html, index.php, images, .css files, etc.) and a database. Your website needs to be accessible 24/7, so that your visitors can browse it. Hosting is the space on a server where your website’s files and database are located and accessed by your visitors and search engine bots. For a site visitor to be able to see a site, they need to know the Internet address where the server that has the site files are hosted. This address is called an Internet Protocol address or an IP Address. IP addresses look like this:173.194.70.113. If you type in your favorite browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, Chrome) the above IP address, you will see google.com. This author has a memory like 9 second Tom and remembering hundreds of IP addresses for all the sites I visit every day is impossible. Here is where your domain name comes into play. A domain name is an easy-to-remember address of a website. You would rather type “google.com” than 173.194.70.113 in your browser. But they both lead to the same web site. Having a domain name is not compulsory, but without it, you will probably be the only person visiting your site by its IP address.

What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is a unique name that identifies a website. For example, the domain name of the U.S. Website Studio website is “uswebsitestudio.com.” Each website has a domain name that serves as an address, which is used to locate a website on the internet.

What is Domain Name Registration?

Domain name registration is necessary for a website, an email or another web service. Domain name registration is the act of reserving a name on the Internet for a certain period, usually one year. It is important to know that this domain will remain yours for as long as you renew it and there is no way to purchase a domain name forever.Registering your domain name gives you personality and recognized identity. We highly, highly and more highly recommend that you purchase your domain name from a company other than the one who hosts your website. Why you ask? When this author started building websites for people I would set them up with a hosting company that also provided the domain name registration, which gave them control over the domain. If a customer had a problem or found a better deal they would want to transfer their site. That’s when real headaches began. Some  hosting companies would not transfer the domain name, some charged for the transfer, ICANN (domain registrar) has time frames that do not allow transfers for a set period of time and the problem continues to grow.Lets say you host your website at ABC Hosting and you want to transfer to XYZ Hosting. If ABC is truly an upstanding business, you will not have any problems, but if they are not, well why did you want to move in the first place. In addition, once you register a domain name, the information about its owner is publicly available, which can lead to identity theft and unsolicited phone calls. Hosting providers charge a monthly fee to place your private information under their umbrella to keep it private at cost of $9.95 to $30.00.Solution, we highly, highly and more highly recommend Hover (we are not an affiliate). We have been dealing with Hover for many years and have never had a problem, their support is outstanding and best of all they provide free domain name privacy without escalating the domain name price. Now if you want to change to a new hosting company all you have to do is type in two name servers in the space provide at Hover, which you get from your new hosting company. It’s that easy you have total control of your domain name.

How do I register a Domain Name?
Who owns the website?
U.S. Website Studio retains ownership of the website. The monthly fees are for hosting the website. If for any reason, you decide to use another hosting service you can transfer the domain name as described previously. If you want the website, we will transfer the entire website to another hosting service for $150.
Can I transfer a website to U.S Website Studio?
Yes, contact us to discuss the best options to accomplish your transfer.
What happens to the website if I cancel my account?

The domain name will be parked until it expires or you transfer it to another hosting provider. The site is not visible when parked. The website will be deleted including all pictures, files and transcripts. An account is considered canceled if the monthly hosting fee is past due by ten days. The deletion of the account is programmed and will automatically occur on the eleventh day.

Can I reinstate my account?

Yes, but please take into account all images and copy will have to be reloaded. The fee for reinstalling the website is $50.00. Please keep in mind, to optimize server space backups for inactive accounts are deleted after thirty days past the grace period.  At that time a complete re-installation would be required and treated as new install.
